Holiday Gift DIY: At-Home Spa Kit

Along with the holidays often comes some extra time to relax and take time for yourself. You can help your loved ones make the most of their “me” time with this At-Home Spa Kit, which provides the perfect opportunity. All the recipes in this kit have been excerpted or adapted from The Herbal Handbook for Home and Health by Pip Waller.

Lavender Oatmeal
Body Scrub

Ingredients

  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • ¼ cup lavender-infused oil
  • ⅓ cup oatmeal
  • 30 drops lavender essential oil
  • 10 drops chamomile essential oil

Makes & keeps
Makes almost 1 cup
Keeps 1 year

Method
Melt the coconut and lavender oils in a double boiler or water bath. Let sit until it starts to cool. Whisk until it is lukewarm and the oil is starting to solidify. Blend in the oatmeal and add the essential oil.

Rose Body Cream

Ingredients

  • 20 oz. almond oil
  • 16 oz. rosewater
  • 3 oz. beeswax
  • Essence of rose

Method
Put the oil and wax into a water bath or double boiler. Heat until the wax is dissolved and then remove from heat. Add the rosewater, slowly and beating all the while, until cool. At this point, add the essence of rose one drop at a time. Beat until cold (I whipped mine for a fluffier cream) and pour into a jar.

Kaolin Clay Face Mask

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons white kaolin clay powder
  • 1 ½ tablespoon milk powder
  • 1 drop frankincense
  • 1 drop chamomile
  • 1 teaspoon + lavender water

Makes & keeps
Makes 2 masks
Use immediately

Method
Mix the dry ingredients together. Add the essential oils and lavender water and stir well. Let sit for a few minutes, and then, if necessary, add more lavender water until you have a consistency that is easy to spread. Apply to cleansed skin and then keep on for 10–20 minutes. Wash off well and moisturize.
