Author: Jessica Martinez

Jessica grew up in southeast Los Angeles, scraping her knees on the softball field and getting lost in the exciting realms of The Giving Tree, The Velveteen Rabbit, and Ramona the Pest. Her love of stories sparked a lifelong curiosity and love of books that led her to UC Berkeley, where she earned a BA in Comparative Literature and Spanish. Upon graduating, she has used her love of children’s books to teach reading and writing in Oakland bilingual public schools for the past ten years. During this time, she received an MFA in Creative Writing from Mills College, attended the Voices of Our Nations Arts Foundation (VONA) writer’s workshop, and is currently at work on several children’s books and short stories.
