New Young Adult Fantasy from North Atlantic

April 2010
THE HUNT FOR THE EYE OF OGIN
THE HUNT FOR THE EYE OF OGIN

Hailed by Midwest Book Review as "a thoroughly enjoyable adventure from first page to last," The Hunt for the Eye of Ogin introduces memorable characters, poetic language, and thrilling plot twists from first-time novelist Patrick Doud's epic series The Winnitok Tales. Writing for young adults (ages 10 and up), Doud tracks the courageous adventures of Elwood Pitch, a thirteen-year-old boy from Boston whose life is irreversibly changed when he and his dog Slukee set out hiking in the woods behind their home and find themselves suddenly swept away to an unfamiliar otherworld. In this mystical realm rich with dangerous creatures and bold companions, Pitch survives on wits, courage, and faith in a fantasy adventure sure to keep readers of all ages on the edge of their seats.

What reviewers are saying:

A classic family adventure for everyone to read and enjoy.
--Mr. Ripley's Enchanted Books

I loved the characters of Elwood and Drallah, I felt this strong connection with them. Patrick Doud's writing is intense and very creative!
--The Heart of Dreams

I'd recommend it to young and old alike. I'll take it a step further and say that maybe those reluctant boy readers would enjoy this one!

LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER
North Atlantic is publishing its first young adult fantasy novel, The Hunt for the Eye of Ogin. After reading the original manuscript we all agreed we must publish it; the story and the characters are new and fresh. In addition, the story's setting--the names of villages, characters, and geographic regions--are reminiscent of native American New England centuries ago. Our press was founded in New England and functions around a non-profit educational corporation called the Society for the Study of Native Arts and Sciences. The author is a poet who comes from a tradition of poetry and literature from which North Atlantic was born. In other words, the story and the author are intertwined with the press and it's history. How could we not publish it?
